Before minibikes appeared

Minibike's design is very simple: there are no springs and shock absorbers. The reason is that manufacturers of minibikes do not chase the super-speed. Even any irregularity or bump on the road can cause a "fiasco" at the event. All racing tracks eliminate long routs and high-speed sections. But even on such "twisting" route, it is rather difficult to control the bike. In order not to lose your balance and not to fall on turn, one requires a certain level of skills.

Motor power ranges from 1.5 to 16 hp. In the most powerful versions, with a total mini bike weight of 22 kg, power can be 0.76 hp/kg, which is 0.04 hp/kg more compared with the legendary Yamaha R6!

For economic reasons, mini bikes  are equipped with small two-stroke engine, appearance of which looks like a power machine saw. It is very simple - a cylinder with a piston, carburetor, crankshaft, crankcase, a simple ignition system and a centrifugal clutch. Models with water-cooling systems are additionally equipped with a radiator, pump and expansion tank. Mini bike starts up as well as a chainsaw - with the cord wrapped around the pulley.


Minibikes

Beginning of big victories

Though in Russia mini-bikes came at the beginning of this millennium, their popularity is growing faster than anywhere else. Confirmation of that are Cups Championships on mini-bikes, which is held since 2002.

Today, sporting mini-motorcycle can accelerate up to 120 kilometers per hour. It has all these opportunities weighing only 20 pounds! Ratio of mini-bike's power and his weight is almost the same as the one of a big motorcycle. Mini-bike gives a very special feeling to race. Riding position is so low that rider may touch the asphalt with his knee at sharp bends. Sportsmen acknowledge that the speed of the mini-bike is rather felt. In addition, because of its small weight, bike requires maximum concentration on the movement in order not to lose control. By the way, that is the reason why a mini-moto is rather popular among beginners it fits best to practice control skills in challenging turns. In addition, the safety of this transport is higher than the one of a full-sized bike what is rather important for the beginners.

Riding a mini bike has no restrictions on the driver's age. Of course, there is a restriction on weight; mini-bike can cope with the weight of up to two hundred pounds. And in some countries, mini-bikes prohibited from riding through the city, it is only permitted in designated asphalt areas. No other restrictions that will make you feel uncomfortable riding this wonder of mechanics, which presents people feeling of adrenaline and safety at the same time.

But it is easier to understand some things on a small motorcycle! First, because everything happens at a much lower speed, and secondly because the cost of failure is not so high, and can afford to take risks and seek the facet. Those are limits of the motorcycle, tire, and your own facet. In the case of falling, the likelihood of injury is much lower and mini bike virtually stays unaffected.

Now let's speak a little bit more about the basic elements of driving, honing which on minibike, you can use them on a big bike as well, drive much faster, more confident - and therefore safer!

Mini moto is powerful enough to throw a rider of it in case of improper handling and nervous manhandling with gas handle. Therefore minimoto instantly teaches the rule - during an intense acceleration one needs to lean forward, bending elbows maximally to "load" the front wheel of the bike and not to let the front wheel give off the ground.

Be sure to use the front and rear brakes simultaneously. This greatly improves the braking performance and reduces the braking distance. And during the race, this means that you can brake much later.

To ensure the correct trajectory when cornering it is needed to hang inside, at the same time pressing the outer footboard of the motorcycle with the leg. At the same time the main aim is not lean over as low as possible and strike a "slider" on the asphalt, but to stretch the body into the turn, following the "inner" elbow and head. This technique helps cornering with a smaller radius at high speed, i.e. at a narrower path.

Training on the bike the following rule works - "you will arrive to the place at which you look". Minimoto very well coaches this aspect. Since the tracks intended for these small bikes are composed mainly of turns, a habit to look further than the turn develops very quickly, i.e. not on the entry but on the exit from it.

Open the lever on the carburetor and fortifier, without turning the throttle, two or three times slowly and then sharply pull the starter cord and bounce off the engine. But do not pull the starter cord all the way! Run the engine for about 30 seconds, and then close the drive motor fortifier and leave it to work for about 1 minute. If the rear wheel spins while engine is idle, then you should reduce speed by using a special adjusting screw on the carburetor.

There is no need to talk a lot about how to ride a mini-bike, we will turn your attention to just few moments. First, dump gas shouldn't be pushed before braking, and only then use the rear brake. Otherwise it may overheat and burn up the engine block chain. After the first trip you might check the tightness of all bolts and screws, especially on the engine as well as general condition of bolts and screws should be checked throughout the period of running.

Periodic maintenance is the best way to preserve the technical performance of your vehicle, extend its life, security, and reduce the costs of care! Wherefore don't be lazy to undertake the following simple manipulation:

A) Before every ride:

Check all cables and effectiveness of the brakes, grease the chain and its tension. Free running circuit should not exceed 10 mm. After each ride, carefully clean the mini-bike and keep it clean every time. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents for that.

B) After each hour of use:

Wash the air filter and lubricate it with a special oil for air filters.

Check the status of clutch shoes and adjust them.

C) every 5 hours of use:

Check tightness of all bolts, screws and nuts.

Carefully clean the carburetor float chamber.

Check the condition and thickness of brake pads. The thickness of the brake pads should not be less than 1mm. Check the basic settings of the brakes.
